Homemade Snowball Syrup

I made this snowball syrup with a basic simple-syrup recipe and a little knowledge of flavor, and I have to say they turned out AMAZING! It took a little bit of time but it was totally worth it! Especially for my kids. And if you're a Mississippi gal like me, you love a good snowball on these HOT southern days.  I love to make cakes with homemade buttercream icing, so as you can imagine, my favorite flavors are of the cake variety,  and Silver Fox. All 8 of these recipes took a total of 30-40 minutes to make (approx 5 min each). Each recipe is listed individually below, and the instructions are at the bottom. I hope y'all love these as much as we do!

Tiger's Blood
1/2 pk strawberry Koolaid
1/2 pk watermelon Koolaid
1 tbsp coconut extract

Cupcake
1 tbsp butter extract
1 tbsp vanilla extract

Silver Fox
1 tbsp coconut extract
1 tbsp almond extract

Lemon Meringue
1 tbsp lemon extract
1 tbsp vanilla extract

Green Apple
1 pk Green Apple Koolaid

Strawberry
1 pk Strawberry Koolaid

Watermelon
1 pk Watermelon Koolaid

Tutti Frutti
1 pk Tutti Frutti or Sharkleberry Fin Koolaid

For each flavor recipe I added 3/4 c. water and 1 1/2 c. granulated sugar. Mix in a pot or saucepan over medium-high heat only until the sugar disolves. I then poured the syrup into a glass measuring cup to cool while I started the next flavor. You can use whatever you have, but I find that having a spout helps to prevent a sticky mess while pouring into the bottles. Be sure to rinse your pot, cup, and spoon between flavors.  Pour your syrup into whatever containers you want, and pour your next flavor in the cup to cool while starting the next flavor, etc. It's a chain reaction kinda thing that moves along fairly quickly. You can increase the water to 1 1/4 c. if you find that they are too sweet or too thick, but keep in mind that you will need a bigger storage solution.

I found these cute little condiment bottles at Wal-Mart for $.97 each. I think they are perfect for pouring the syrups onto your shaved ice, and fun for the kids to make their own. It's ok if the syrup isn't completely cooled before pouring it into the bottles. They are dishwasher safe, so they withstand a little heat fairly well. Plus, they store easily in the refrigerator! I'm going to make some cute labels for them. These recipes make just enough to fit into the bottles. The fruit flavors taste like Jolly Rancher Candy, and the others taste like you've made a trip to the snowball stand! So go make some syrup and have fun! It's the perfect thing to do with the kiddos on a hot summer day. Enjoy!
